Speak up! Staged reading festival

Speak up! Staged reading festival is an expressive reading education project aimed at boys and girls in three different Italian regions aged 6 to 18, proposed by Teatro di Roma and implemented with funding from the Center for Books and Reading.
Speak up! – realized by the Theater of Rome in partnership with Biondo Theater Palermo e Emilia Romagna Theatre ERT / National Theatre – involves the establishment of a network of schools of all levels and the involvement of other partners to activate 45 read aloud workshops in Bologna, Palermo, Rome, Frosinone, Latina, Rieti and Viterbo.
Starting in January 2023, expressive reading workshops led by a team of experienced artists trained by the staff of the Piero Gabrielli Integrated Theater Workshop will begin.
The texts adopted are great classics: The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi for elementary school; Little Women by Louisa May Alcott for grade I secondary schools; Il giorno della civetta by Leonardo Sciascia for grade II secondary schools.
Pupils will engage in word games and expressive reading of texts to explore and experience how reading aloud is an art that can express meaning, rhythm, music and emotion, putting themselves on the line and facing the judgment of a jury for the first time.
At the end of the workshop each theater partner will host a staged Reading Festival, a competition featuring pairs of readers competing in a friendly read aloud contest.

The
Staged Reading Parties
planned are:
Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at the Teatro Argentina in Rome
Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at the Biondo Theater in Palermo
Thursday, March 30, 2023 at the Arena del Sole Theater in Bologna

Winners in each category, according to their school cycle, will be judged and voted on by a panel of specialists.
All schools will have books as prizes, and the winning pairs will be able to participate in the National Festival, scheduled to be held at Rome’s Teatro Argentina on April 18, 2023, where they will meet the award-winning pairs of readers in Bologna and Palermo.
